Quite a few effects added to this one to start off the second season. I have lots of fire video in the archives and shot this one months ago when their was no burn ban in effect. Fire on the Terlingua Ranch is a serious subject - because if it if your property is burning up - any help to put it out - is too far away to to save it. Therefore - I was really relieved to see the video today - was only about John Wells burning his trash.

Another issue on the TERLINGUA RANCH - is the fact most property owners are non residents. For example I live about 1400 miles away. Once I saw on a local Facebook site that a resident neighbor was reporting that a Mahan cabin was on fire and "was burning to the ground"! So I immediately called the Study Butte Volunteer Fire Department & Brewster County Sheriffs Department - To investigate. Turned out the whole thing was a HOAX. That neighbor simply cried FIRE - when there was no fire. I urged the Sheriffs Dept. to charge him with this crime - but they did nothing! A few years later - this disturbed individual shot and killed himself - leaving his widow and several young children. They should have put the neighbor in an institution & might have saved his life?

The whole issue made us want to take action to FIREPROOF our property as much as possible to minimize potential fire damage. So we kept the grass & brush cut as low as possible - to minimize brush fires from reaching this Hunt Cabin. Put fireproof metal siding all around the cabin (already had a metal roof), put Hardy plank trim boards rather than wood trim boards, etc. etc.
